October 21, 2007 - Tim Johnson (Cyclocrossworld.com/LEER/Cannondale) proved he is ready for the European cyclocross season with a dominating win over all contenders in Granogue, Delaware at what experts described as “one of the most challenging cyclocross circuits on the North American UCI calendar.”

Among those leading the chase for Johnson – and finishing in second place – was teammate Jeremy Powers (Cyclocrossworld.com) and perennial competitors Barry Wicks (Kona), Chris Jones (Nerac), Matt White (Fiordifrutta) and Jesse Anthony (Jamis).

Johnson, who showed evidence of his peak power and speed making up for mechanical difficulties earlier this year, worked the first two laps of the Granogue 2.9 kilometer circuit with a gang of six. When he felt the pace slacken slightly in lap three, he ratcheted up the effort to test the legs of his competitors, and broke free of all except teammate Powers, Wicks and Jones.

“When I attacked I wanted keep things hard because I thought we were kind of settling down a little bit,” said Johnson, while watching his team-mate Powers ride in for second place. “It looked like both Barry and Jeremy were comfortable so I attacked just to see what would happen.” Powers let Wicks and Jones lead a fruitless pursuit of Johnson, then, sensing a bit of weakness from the pair, powered ahead into the gap.
