Tim Johnson and Jeremy Powers battle it out, and both win!
Return to News Page
“Saturday was awesome,“ said Powers after his fourth win of the year. “I had good legs and everything went perfectly. In every race this year I keep reminding myself of how fast I had to go in Europe and how much I suffered over there. I donıt want to go over there in December and not be ready, this kind of racing helps.“
Sundayıs race looked to be unfolding the same way until an early race crash took Jeremy out of the lead group. Tim found himself off the front with national champ Ryan Trebon (Kona) less than halfway through and the duo worked together to establish an unassailable lead. With Jeremy comfortably riding hard back in third, Tim unleashed a lethal series of attacks that proved too much for Trebon, who drifted off the back and settled for second. Tim punched the air with his second Sunday win in a row. The win gave Tim the USGP series leaderıs jersey heading into the second set of USGP races in New Jersey in two weeks.
“It was so cool. It was really fast with a lot of straightaways and a ton of pedaling,“ said Tim. “Jeremy was flying on Saturday and then on Sunday it worked out for me. The first couple of races of the season were tough to take mentally; I just wasnıt used to be riding in that position. But now itıs coming around to where I know I should be.“
Still suffering from a lingering illness, Lyne Bessette struggled through a tough weekend in Kentucky, finishing 5th and 9th on Saturday and Sunday in the Elite Womenıs races, respectively.
Jeremy, Lyne, and Tim will all race in Boulder, Colorado next weekend.
